Weight you can feel
A solid timber core is heavier and stiffer than foam. It is the single most obvious difference between a mid range and a premium composite door.
The colour palette

Because there is timber to cut into, the panelled designs have genuine relief rather than a shallow pressing.

Door-Stop use an insulated core and are the best value composite doors in the UK. Solidor use a 48mm solid laminated timber core, which is heavier, allows deeper mouldings and carries a wider colour palette. If the door is the front of your house, Solidor is worth the difference. If it is a back door, Door-Stop is the sensible call.
The colour is part of the GRP skin rather than a paint layer, so it does not peel or flake. Very dark colours on a south facing elevation will lighten slightly over many years, which is true of any dark exterior finish.
A composite door set typically achieves a U-value between 1.0 and 1.4 W/m²K depending on the glazing and frame you choose, which is substantially better than a timber door and better than most uPVC. Solid styles perform better than heavily glazed ones.
