The variables
What actually moves the number
In descending order of impact. Nothing here is a surprise charge — it is all visible in the designer as you choose it.
- The range
- Solidor sits roughly £250 to £350 above the equivalent Door-Stop, because of the solid timber core.
- Overall size
- Anything above a standard 900 × 2050 opening is priced by area, and sidelights add substantially.
- Glazing
- Plain obscure glass is included. Leaded, coloured and designer patterns add £40 to £180 per aperture.
- Frame colour
- A white frame is cheapest. Colour matched inside and out typically adds £60 to £120.
- Hardware
- Standard lever furniture is included. A 1800mm bar handle or an Ultion cylinder each add £45 to £90.
- Threshold
- A standard threshold is included. Low or part M compliant thresholds add around £40.
Be careful
What a suspiciously cheap door usually is
If you find a composite door at £399 delivered, something has been removed to get there. Usually it is one of four things: an imported slab rather than a British manufactured door set, a thin unreinforced frame, a basic euro cylinder with no anti-snap protection, or a standard size that you are expected to make fit.
None of those are visible in a photograph, and all of them are obvious once the door is hanging. The gap between a genuinely cheap door and a properly made one is around two hundred pounds on a purchase that should last thirty years, which is not where we would look for savings.
What we would say is this: pay for the core, the frame and the cylinder. Save on designer glass, matching frame colours and long bar handles if you need to, because none of those affect how the door performs.

We are not a manufacturer, and we do not pretend to be.
DoorDeals holds trade accounts with Door-Stop and Solidor. They build the doors, we handle everything else, and we add a modest fixed margin on top of the trade price. That is the whole business model, and we would rather you knew it.
- One price, for everyoneThere is no trade tier and no retail tier. A fitter buying fifty doors a year and a homeowner buying one see the same number.
- A fixed margin, not a percentageWe add a flat amount to the manufacturer's trade price. On a more expensive door that means a smaller percentage, not a bigger one.
- The price on screen is the priceVAT and mainland delivery are included in every figure you see. Nothing appears at checkout that was not there at the start.
- No discount theatreWe do not run a permanent sale, inflate a 'was' price or email you a code an hour after you leave. It is tiring and it is not how a serious business prices.
Every door is built to order in Britain. Nothing is held in stock, which is why the lead time is real and the price is honest.

Card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Payment is taken in full before the door goes into manufacture, because every door is bespoke to you.

We publish one price and everyone pays it, whether you are fitting fifty doors a year or one. We hold trade accounts with the manufacturers and we add a fixed, modest margin rather than a percentage that inflates as the door gets more expensive.
